Google Chrome web browser has taken the leading position in the browser market for 2020. The popular web browser has recorded a new high for the fifth straight month. It has gained a new high of 69.8% market share.
The report by Net Applications, an analytics firm from California, US highlights the market share of internet browsers. Google Chrome browser is the leading web browser with 69.8% market share. The only browser that has ever achieved the popularity as Chrome is Microsoft’s signature web browser, Internet Explorer. Back in 2008, Internet Explorer had managed to break past 70%.Microsoft is still an important player in the browser market. The company launched Chromium powered Edge browser in January. The original Edge ran on EdgeHTML browser engine and Chakra JavaScript engine. Microsoft Edge is expected to achieve a market share of 10.3% by 2021. Another popular contender, Mozilla Firefox has a 7.2% market share as of May 2020.
Mozilla’s growth in the browser market share has been relatively flat. At the current rate, it looks like Google will continue to dominate this market until the new player disrupts it.
Google recently rolled out the v83 of the browser, introducing several new features including support for group tabs. Using this feature, Chrome users can now rename, colourise and move around tabs in the tab bar, making it easier to segregate them. This update also includes enhanced safe browsing mode, an option to block third party cookies and a new Safety Check tool.
