Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that Delhi Congress had been protesting against the new Liquor Policy implemented by the Arvind Kejriwal Government from the outset, voicing its concern that it will not only ruin the youth of the city by spawning a new liquor consumption culture, but also huge corruption had taken place in the liquor deal, handing over the entire retail business to a few chosen private cartels. He said that Delhi Congress was the first to complain against the new Liquor Policy to the Lt. Governor and the Police Commissioner, with relevant documents, but the then Lt. Governor did not act on it. He said that when the incumbent LG, Shri V.K.Saxena, ordered a CBI probe into the liquor scam, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who swears by the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, got scared and took a U-turn to roll back the new liquor policy, but has not yet sacked his Excise Minister Manish Sisodia.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today, Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Lt. Governor’s decision to order a CBI probe into the Liquor Policy implemented by Manish Sisodia was a welcome step, but if an impartial probe is held, then not only Sisodia and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, but many BJP leaders will also be caught for their complicity in the liquor deal. He asked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to immediately sack Sisodia from the Cabinet, as his role in the liquor deal sell out was clear.

Delhi Congress had sensed the inherent danger in the new Liquor Policy, as liquor vends were opened at the rate of 3-4 in every ward, and 216 liquor retail outlets were opened at non-conforming areas in 18 Assembly constituencies, about which a Delhi Congress delegation, consisting of former Delhi Speaker and ex-DPCC president Shri Subhash Chopra, had submitted a memorandum to Union Urban Development Minister Shri Hardeep Puri, who had promised to take appropriate action. He said that the LG’s CBI probe order was consequent of the actions taken by Delhi Congress. He said that Delhi Congress had organised six press conferences against the liquor policy, held many demonstrations and dharnas, including a Jan Jagran Pol-Khol Abhiyaan at 272 wards in 70 Assembly constituencies, and held protests at 55 places in the Capital the day the new Liquor Policy was implemented on November 17. 2022. He said that Congress workers also held a dharna outside Kejriwal’s residences besides a vibrant social media campaign against the Liquor Policy, but the power drunk and corrupt Kejriwal did not give heed to the Congress protest, but the CBI probe has put the fear in his mind.
