Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Delhi Government’s decision to withdraw the 20 per cent rebate on Circle Rate from July 1, 2022 will put additional financial burden on people, who are yet to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic economic rundown. He said that henceforth the cost of property transactions will shoot up which the common people are not in a position to afford. He said that no property transaction had taken place in the past two and a half years due to the pandemic, and when people were slowly recovering from the financial ruin, the Arvind Kejriwal Government has inflicted another blow on them by ending the Circle Rate rebate. (Circle Rates are the minimum rates charged from people below which a property cannot be registered).

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the 20 per cent rebate on Circle Rate was a great relief for the common people in property transactions, but now that the Government has withdrawn the scheme, it will also affect the fund flow to the Revenue Department of the Delhi Government. He said that the Delhi Congress had cautioned the Delhi Government in early March this year that any move to increase the Circle Rate will affect the cost of purchase and sale of properties in most residential areas in Delhi, which will adversely impact people devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic, as they were not in a position to bear with such a financial burden, which will further push up inflation in Delhi. He said that traders, shopkeepers and business people had strongly opposed any move to increase the Circle Rate then, as they were yet to recover from the Covid-19 lockdowns. He said that it was surprising that the Delhi Government still allows liquor vends to offer heavy rebates on all kinds of liquor, wines and beer in the Capital, but the rebate on Circle Rate has been withdrawn!
