Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that the BJP Government at the Centre, to recover its wasteful expenditure and to help its industrialist friends, has imposed a heavy burden on the common people by charging 5 per cent GST on numerous essential items like milk, grains, pulses, wheat flour, rice, curd, cheese, bread etc. to loot the people, who are already crushed asunder due to price rise and unemployment.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that GST on essential items will increase the monthly expenses of a common household by a few thousands, which they are not in a position to bear with, with the price of a cooking gas cylinder already going over Rs 1000 per cylinder. He said that all the policy decisions of the Modi Government were intended to harass and torment the poor and the middle class to enrich the rich friends of the BJP, as virtually no item has been left out of the ambit of the Goods and Services Tax. He said that GST on several items has been hiked from 12 to 18 per cent, with many items going out of the purchasing power of the common people.
GST hike by the Modi Government, Delhiites will also have to bear with the Power Purchase Agreement Cost (PPAC) increase, imposed by the power distribution companies in Delhi in collusion with the Arvind Kejriwal Government, to create a 2 to 6 per cent hike in the power bills from July, which people are unable to afford, as the AAP Government has not extended any help to the people ruined by job losses, loss of livelihoods and businesses due to the Covid-19 pandemic devastation.
