New Delhi,28th December 2022 : a special dance theatre production paying tribute to women warriors who fought against the British was staged in Delhi International Arts festival 2022 here at Kartavyapath India Gate in Delhi. WARRIOR WOMEN of BHARAT is dance theatre production conceptualized by the internationally celebrated danseuse & choreographer, PadmaShri awardee Prathibha Prahlad. The multi-style production features PadmaShri awardees Prathibha Prahlad, ShovanaNarayan, AnitaRatnam, AlekhyaPunjala, Gopika Varma, Sharodi Saikia and Meera Das, performed in their respective styles.
more than 200 artist from all over India under the Spirit of India and dozens of foreign artists from Sri Lanka, USA,Malaysia ,Mauritius ,Hungary and Japan captivate the audience by their wonderful performances in Delhi international Arts Festival at Kartavyapath.
WARRIOR WOMEN OF BHARAT, A Tribute to Valorous Women who Fought For the our Motherland has been produced by Indira Gandhi National Centre For The Arts and Prasiddha Foundation, Concept of Prathibha Prahlad and Choreography Design by Prathibha Prahlad, Sovana Narayan and Anita Ratnam . PadmaShri awardees Prathibha Prahlad, ShovanaNarayan , Anita Ratnam Alekhya Punjala, Gopika Varma, Sharodi Saikia and Meera Das captivate the audience by their performances . Memorable performance by PadmaShri Prathibha Prahlad as Rani Laxmibai in BharataNatyam enthralled the audience . Warrior Women of Bharat is a multi-style dance theatre production featuring celebrated and respected classical and contemporary senior dancers & theatre actors drawn from all over the Country.
Women warriors picked up the sword, when men gave up or were killed to fight for the territorial, physical, and fiscal integrity of their lands. To quote Rani Lakshmi Bai, “ In the words of Lord Krishna, we will, if we are victorious, enjoy the fruits of victory; if defeated and killed on the field of battle, we shall surely earn eternal glory and salvation…” The indomitable spirit of warriors of Rani Velu Nachiyar of Tamil Nadu, Rani Chennamma of Karnataka, Rani Avanti Bai of MadhyaPradesh, Rani Lakshmi Bai and Begum Hazrath Mahal of Uttar Pradesh, Kanakalatha Barua of Assam and Capt. Lakshmi Sehgal of the Indian National Army will be celebrated through this production.
