Eye-Q, a leading hospital eye care chain has announced its sponsorship of a Walkathon in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to raise awareness about Glaucoma as part of World Glaucoma Week 2024. The Walkathon is scheduled to  take place on March 9th, 2024, at 7 a.m. at the Community Centre, Sector 4, Gurugram.: Eye-Q, a leading hospital eye care chain has announced its sponsorship of a Walkathon in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to raise awareness about Glaucoma as part of World Glaucoma Week 2024. The Walkathon is scheduled to  take place on March 9th, 2024, at 7 a.m. at the Community Centre, Sector 4, Gurugram.

The awareness campaign will offer free Glaucoma screenings for 150 doctors. Dr. Ajay Sharma, recently appointed President of IMA Gurgaon, is scheduled to deliver an insightful talk on glaucoma awareness. During this session, he will also introduce Eye-Q’s ambitious vision to provide Free Eye Checks to 50,000 individuals and distribute 17,000 spectacles to the underprivileged within the next six months.

Dr Ajay Sharma, founder and CMD of EYE-Q said, “Glaucoma, also known as “silent thief of sight” is a group of eye disorders that lead to progressive damage to the optic nerve. It’s estimated that 80 million people globally suffer from this ailment. In India, approximately 11.9 million people share the burden of this disease and 8.9 million people have been impacted by it. As per studies, Glaucoma is considered as third leading cause of blindness after cataract and refractive error. Moreover, people who are above 60 or are diabetic or those who have severe nearsightedness are at maximum risk of developing this disease.” , “Given the absence of early symptom signs, numerous individuals remain unaware of the condition until it progresses to an advanced stage, posing challenges for early detection and intervention.such as the one we are scheduled to do on 9th can help spreading awareness about glaucoma risk factors, symptoms, and available treatments.
