Government Committed to the Socio-Economic Empowerment of Goods Shed

The Railway Goods Shed Workers’ Manthan 2025, organized by the Bhartiya Railway Mall Godam Shramik Union (BRMGSU) at NDMC Convention Centre, infused fresh optimism into the lives of goods shed workers across the country. Gracing the event as Chief Guest, Shri K. Sekhar, Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), emphasized the government’s commitment to the socio-economic empowerment of workers. He reiterated that goods shed workers form the backbone of India’s economic structure and assured that the government is actively working to ensure their inclusion in schemes such as the e-Shram portal, health insurance, and provision of regular wages.
Shri Sekhar also acknowledged the vital role of goods shed workers in the nation’s economy and affirmed that safeguarding their interests is both a duty and priority. He mentioned that the Labour Ministry is conducting surveys across railway goods sheds to identify issues on the ground and ensure targeted delivery of welfare schemes.
Dr. Parimal Kanti Mondal, National President of BRMGSU, stated that the union’s primary objective is to uplift the lives of 8.5 lakh goods shed workers by linking them with government schemes.
At Manthan 2025, Shri Sekhar underlined the need for improvements in areas such as social security, medical facilities, regular wages, education, modern technology and skill training, and safe and healthy work environments. He assured that the Labour Department is taking concrete steps to integrate goods shed workers with key government initiatives.
Deputy Labour Commissioner Tukaram acknowledged the Labour Department’s commitment to worker welfare and social security. He also pointed out the procedural challenges contract workers face due to complex legal frameworks but reassured that the department is actively working at every level to protect their rights.
The event also saw participation from various labour union representatives who shared their thoughts and encouraged collective action. Manthan 2025 not only highlighted the struggles of goods shed workers but also became a symbol of meaningful efforts toward lasting solutions. The event concluded with heartfelt appreciation for the workers’ resilience and dedication.
