“After Watching the Ramayana Trailer, It’s Confusing—Is This Ramayana or Mahabharata?”: Supreme Court Advocate Dr. Bharat Nagar
The Ramayana Research Council today आयोजित a significant press conference at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI), Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, where key announcements regarding the prestigious “Ramayani Samman 2026” were shared.
Prominent dignitaries present on the occasion included: Ajay Bhatt (Member of Parliament, Nainital & FormerMinister of State for Defence), Dev Dutta Sharma (Retd. IAS),Dr. Bharat Nagar (Supreme Court Advocate) Kumar Sushant, Pitambar Mishra, and Sadhvi Pragya Bharti.
The Council announced that the Ramayani Samman 2026 ceremony will be held on August 19, 2026, at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Goswami Tulsidas. A total of 28 distinguished individuals from across the country will be honoured.The Council also informed that the Bihar Government has allotted 12 acres of land in Sitamarhi for the construction of the Mata Sita (Shakti Sthal) Temple. The Bhoomi Pujan for this grand project was performed in April 2026 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar.
During the press interaction, Supreme Court Advocate Dr. Bharat Nagar expressed his concerns over the recently released trailer of the film “Ramayana.” He stated that after watching the trailer, it was unclear whether it depicted Ramayana or Mahabharata, as the portrayal of Lord Ram did not align with the traditional image of dignity and serenity. He urged that the film should be shown to scholars of the Ramayana Research Council before certification by the censor board, so that any inaccuracies can be corrected beforehand. Referring to the film “Adipurush,” he added that such misrepresentations can mislead the younger generation and hurt religious sentiments.
Ajay Bhatt, Member of Parliament, stated that the Ramayana Research Council was established with the objective of disseminating authentic knowledge related to the Ramayana. He emphasized that filmmakers should undertake thorough research before creating such films to prevent the spread of incorrect information. He also announced the names of some of the awardees, including Anup Jalota, Anuradha Paudwal, R.K. Singh, and Late Kishore Kunal.Sadhvi Pragya Bharti also shared her views, stating that the character of Mata Sita is often misrepresented in films. She stressed that Mata Sita should not be portrayed as weak or helpless, but rather as a strong and ideal woman.
The Council members concluded by stating that the objective of the Ramayani Samman is to strengthen Indian culture, uphold the traditions of the Ramayana, and promote moral values in society, while ensuring that accurate knowledge is passed on to future generations.
